ROCHESTER, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team fell at Nazareth College 4-3 on Saturday afternoon in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West action.
Ryan Luiten scored twice for the Knights.
Matt Gibney started the game and made 15 saves.
Anthony Pupplo made four saves in just over eight minutes of play to finish out the second period. Neumann outshot Nazareth 44-23.
The teams traded goals in the first period for a 2-2 score after the first 20 minutes. Luiten opened the scoring 5:53 into the game.
Matt Zendejas and
Sam House tallied the assists. Nazareth tied the game midway through the period.
Johannes Sallila put the Knights up 2-1 at the 14:54 mark off assists from
Shane Topf and
Nick Perruccio. The Golden Flyers tied the game with 2:56 left before the first intermission.
Neumann killed off a five-minute major to start the second period and the teams remained tied at two. Nazareth scored the only two goals of the period, coming 13 seconds apart in the middle of the period.
Luiten scored his second goal of the game with 1:53 left in regulation. The Knights pulled their goalie for the final 1:18 to attempt to score the tying goal, but they could not find the back of the net.
Neumann (2-2, 0-2 ECAC West) will opened its home schedule next weekend with a pair of conference games. The Knights will host Elmira on Friday and Hobart on Saturday.
