Men’s Ice Hockey Battles Back to 6-6 Draw

CANTON, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team battled back from an early deficit to play to a 6-6 draw at SUNY-Canton on Saturday evening.
 
Zac Lazzaro netted two goals for Neumann. Jory Mullin had a goal and an assist. Liam Board handed out three assists and Nick Perruccio tallied two. Tyler Lefebvre started in net and made 11 saves. Matt Gibney played 50 minutes in relief and made 24 saves and received the credit for the tie.
 
SUNY-Canton had the jump early, scoring the first goal 2:53 into the game. The Kangaroos netted three goals total in the first period for an early lead.
 
SUNY-Canton made the score 4-0 with a goal 5:50 into the second period. Shane Topf put the Knights on the board at the 9:03 mark of the second period. Perruccio and Thomas Mansbridge tallied the assists. Mullin scored the Knights second goal two minutes later off an assist from Board. Just 16 seconds later, the Kangaroos got the goal back for a 5-2 game. Lazzaro scored his first goal of the game with 3:23 left in the second for a 5-3 game after 40 minutes. Board and Matt Gerber had the assists.
 
Sam House scored a power play goal 3:21 into the third period off assists from Perruccio and Johannes Sallila. Neumann had a 5-on-3 man-advantage, but could not net the game-tying goal. The Knights then had to kill-off a 5-on-3 power play for the Kangaroos. After the first man came out of the box, Lazzaro tied the game at five with a shorthanded goal at the 13:38 mark.
 
Ryan Luiten gave the Knights their first lead of the Knight with a power play goal with 4:23 left in regulation. Board and Mullin tallied the assists. SUNY-Canton scored a power play goal of its own to tie the game at six with 2:40 left and send the game into overtime.
 
The Knights were able to kill-off a power play in overtime to come away with the 6-6 draw.
 
Neumann (8-3-1) will next participate in the W.B. Mason Winter Classic at Plattsburgh State. The Knights will face Castleton in the first game on December 30 at 4:00 PM.
