PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team dropped a hard fought non-conference game versus Plymouth State University 2-0 on Friday evening.
Julia Fair was strong in net for the Knights, making 31 saves in the loss.
Grace Klienbach and
Bek Lucas also played well for Neumann, registering 12 shots combined over the course of the game.
Not much separated the teams on the evening, as both teams fought hard to gain an advantage. The first period would end knotted at 0-0, with the Panthers holding a narrow 8-7 edge in shots.
Neumann would up their level in the second period, taking the play to Plymouth State and generating three power plays. Despite a 12-10 edge in shots, the Knights could not solve the Panther goalie. Neumann's best chance came late in the period, as Klienbach was hauled down for a penalty shot. The senior forward did everything but score, beating the goalie with the shot only to have the puck hit the post to keep the game scoreless heading to the third.
The third period would see Plymouth State finally find a breakthrough just under three minutes into the stanza. Neumann would fight valiantly to level the score, but the team could not find the back of the net. The Knights best chance to equalize came with just under two minutes to play as Lucas found herself in behind the defense on a breakaway. Despite a nice deke and shot, her attempt was again thwarted by the Panthers net-minder. The Knights would pull their goalie late in the game in a last ditch effort to get the game tied, but Plymouth State would notch an empty netter to seal the 2-0 win with just 30 seconds left in the contest.
Neumann (3-7) returns to the ice tomorrow for a rematch versus the Panthers. Puck-drop is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
