Women's Ice Hockey Tops Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team picked up a 3-2 win in the second of two games this weekend versus Plymouth State University on Saturday afternoon.

Bek Lucas continued her torrid start to the season with another goal for Neumann, while Mollie Johnson and Lauren Vanstone each picked up their first collegiate goals. Helen Cooney also picked up her first career win in net, making 46 saves in the victory.

The first period would be a back and forth affair with both teams generating plenty of chances. Plymouth State would outshoot Neumann 15-14, but it was the Knights who would capitalize on their chances first as Lucas scored at the 7:31 mark.

Neumann would keep its foot on the pedal in the second stanza, notching the period's only two goals. Despite being outshot 12-8 in the frame, Johnson and Vanstone both scored their first career goals to make it 3-0 to the visitors.

The Panthers would try to make it interesting in the third, notching two power play goals in the period to bring the score back to within one. Plymouth State poured on the pressure late in the game to try and get the score tied, but Cooney stood tall in net making 19 saves in the period to keep the lead intact.  The Knights would withstand the Panther onslaught and skate away with a hard fought road victory 3-2.

Neumann (4-7) will enjoy a lengthy break before its next contest in January. The Knights will be back in action after the holiday break when they will host Post University on January 6th and 7th.
