GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Gwynedd Mercy University 90-78 in an early meeting of the undefeated teams in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
James Butler led four Knights in double-digits with 26 points.
Kenny Wilson netted 19 points.
Darian Barnes added 15 points and nine rebounds.
DeShawn Lowman scored 10 points and handed out six assists.
The teams opened the game trading baskets and were tied at six just over four minutes into the contest. The Knights then went on a 12-4 run for an 18-10 advantage. The Griffins went on their own run and got to within one, 22-21, with 6:04 remaining in the first half. The teams remained within a few points of each other and Neumann took a 34-30 lead into halftime.
Two-and-a-half minutes into the second half, Gwynedd Mercy hit a layup and took a 38-37 lead. Neumann responded right away as Barnes hit a three-pointer, off an assist from Lowman. The Knights slowly built up their lead and hit the double-digit mark, 54-44, with 14:18 left in regulation.
Over the next six minutes, the Griffins went on a 16-10 run to get to within four, 64-60. The Knights answered by scoring the next six points to take back a double-digit lead. The teams played even down the stretch and Neumann took the 90-78 win.
Neumann (6-0, 3-0 CSAC) will head to Delaware Valley University on Wednesday for non-conference action beginning at 7:00 PM.
