PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The No. 13 Neumann University men's ice hockey team picked up a 6-2 win over Castleton University in the first game of the W.B. Mason Winter Classic at Plattsburgh State on Friday afternoon.
Jory Mullin continues to rack up the points, netting two goals and adding an assist.
Shane Topf also scored twice.
Liam Board dished out three assists and
Lauri Viitanen handed out two.
Anthony Pupplo made 33 saves in net for the win.
The scoring game in the first and third periods. The Knights tallied three goals in each period and the Spartans scored once in each.
Castleton opened the scoring just 21 seconds into the game. Mullin scored his first goal at the 9:10 mark as Neumann would find the back of the net three times in three-and-a-half minutes.
Ryan Luiten and Topf tallied power play goals for a 3-1 lead.
Topf put Neumann up 4-1 6:23 into the first period. Mullin added another power play goal as the Knights went 3-for-4 on the man advantage. The Spartans scored their second goal at the 12:15 mark.
Matt Zendejas netted his first goal of the season at the 15:49 mark to cap the scoring.
Neumann (9-3-1) will play in the championship game tomorrow at 4:00 PM against either Plattsburgh State or Wesleyan.
