ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team opened the 2017 portion of its season with a dominating 5-0 win over visiting Post University.
Neumann was led on the day by a fantastic performance from its top line of
Grace Klienbach,
Kelly Fox, and
Bek Lucas. Klienbach registered a hat trick on the evening, while Lucas assisted on all three tallies. Fox notched a goal of her own and was joined on the score-sheet by
Jillian Crane, who tallied her first career goal.
Julia Fair picked up the shutout in goal for Neumann, making three saves in the win.
The Knights would jump all over Post right from the start of the game. Neumann peppered the Eagles goal with shots in the opening frame and the Knights were rewarded with three goals. Fox opened the scoring for Neumann, followed by markers from Klienbach and Crane. Neumann was equally dominant in their own end, holding the Eagles without a shot for the entire period. The Knights would head to intermission holding a 32-0 edge in shots.
The second period saw more territorial domination from Neumann, who would continue to build its shot total to 62 while limiting Post to just two pucks on net. Klienbach would notch the period's only goal on the power play at the 13:44 mark of the frame off a nice feed from Lucas to make it 4-0 heading into the third period.
The third period was more of the same from Neumann. Klienbach finished off her hat trick at the 12:35 mark of the period and the Knights would cruise to a 5-0 victory in the first of two matchups versus the Eagles. Shots for the game would finish 89-3 in favor of the Knights.
Neumann (5-7) is right back in action tomorrow afternoon as it hosts Post for the second game of the two game series. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
