Strong Second Half Leads Knights over Cyclones

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Centenary College 80-62 on Wednesday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

James Butler notched a double-double, scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. Darian Barnes scored 15 points and had six blocked shots. DeShawn Lowman netted 16 points and Tyaire Hudson added 15 in the win.

The Cyclones have been the Knights' only loss in their last 12 games. Centenary scored the first points of the game, but Neumann answered back quickly to begin a scoring battle that lasted for the first ten minutes of the game.

A layup by Butler broke the 21-21 tie to put Neumann ahead by two with under ten minutes left to play in the first half. Denzel Yard's layup increased the Knights lead to six with 5:49 on the clock. The Cyclones once again began to close the lead before Lowman's layup with 2:38 to go put Neumann back up by six. To conclude the half, the Cyclones hit a three-pointer for a three point game, 38-35 Neumann, going into halftime.

The Cyclones had a chance to tie the game with 16:34 on the clock. Neumann fouled Centenary on a three-point attempt. The Cyclones only went 1-for-3 from the line and the Knights kept the lead, 43-41. This sparked a 17-point run by the Knights to jump out to a 50-41 lead. Neumann was able to keep the double-digit lead the rest of the half to secure the win.

The Knights outscored the Cyclones 42-27 in the second half and they shot for 54.8% to unravel Centenary's play. For the game, Neumann shot 50.8% from the floor while Centenary shot 32.8%.

With the win, the Knights' winning streak is now eight in a row and 12 of their last 13. Neumann (16-6, 12-3 CSAC) will travel to Keystone College on Saturday as the regular season begins to wrap up. Tip-off for the CSAC match-up is slated for 1:00 PM.
