FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team doubled-up Sacred Heart University 4-2 on Friday evening in non-conference action.
 
Bek Lucas tallied a hat trick. Megan Russelo had a goal and an assist. Julia Fair made 29 saves in net. The Knights outshot the Pioneers 36-31.
 
After the teams played to a scoreless first period, Lucas scored her first goal of the game at the 16:13 mark of the second period, shorthanded. Russelo assisted on the goal.
 
The Pioneers tied the game at one 50 seconds into the third period. Lucas netted her second goal 50 seconds later to take back the lead for Neumann. Donna Williams and Casey Kilduff had the assists that put the Knights up for good. Lucas completed her hat trick at the 11:12 mark of the third for a 3-1 lead. Sammy Patrick and Steph Grundy notched the assists.
 
Sacred Heart made it a 3-2 game with a goal at the 13:23 mark. Russelo sealed the win with an unassisted empty net goal with 58 seconds left in regulation.
 
"We played a well-rounded consistent game tonight. We defended well and had some great offensive opportunities," said coach Kearns. "When pressured we stayed composed and were rewarded with the outcome."
 
Neumann (5-16-1) and Sacred Heart (11-12-2) will meet again tomorrow afternoon beginning at 2:00 PM.
