Men’s Ice Hockey Defeats Manhattanville to Wrap Up Regular Season

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team wrapped up the regular season with a 4-1 win over Manhattanville on Friday evening in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West Conference action.
 
Prior to puck drop, the Knights honored its five seniors, playing in their final regular season game: Casey Rogers, Steve Low, Jon Low, Mikko Virtanen and Brandon Gagne.
 
Johannes Sallila was the lone Knight with more than one point in the balanced attached. He tallied two assists in the win. Mitch Wiebe made 37 saves in net, turning away 16 shots in the third period alone. Neumann went 1-for-3 on the power play while Manhattanville was 1-for-7. The Valiants outshot the Knights 38-29.
           
Neumann started off the scoring with a power play goal by Jon Low, assisted by Doug Rose and Liam Board, at the 6:28 mark of the first period. Manhattanville answered back with its own power play goal for a 1-1 game after one period.
 
The Knights found the back of the net twice in the second period. Jory Mullin netted the eventual game-winning goal 11 minutes into the period. Salillia and Jake Davidson had the assists. Shane Topf put Neumann up by two with 58 seconds remaining before intermission. Salillia tallied the assist.
 
The Knights had to kill off a 5-on-3 penalty in the beginning of the third period. Neumann was able to keep Manhattanville off the board. Zac Lazzaro netted an empty net goal with 47 seconds remaining to seal the win and the fourth seed in the ECAC West playoffs. Anthony Pino had the assist on the insurance goal.
 
Neumann finishes the regular season 14-8-3 overall and 6-7-2 in ECAC West action. The Knights will be the No. 4 seed in the ECAC West postseason and will host a first round game on Wednesday. Opponent and time are to be determined.
