ASTON, Pa. – The No. 4 seeded Neumann University men's ice hockey team defeated No. 5 seeded Nazareth College 2-1 on Wednesday evening in first round action of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West.
A goal was scored in each of the three periods. The Golden Flyers struck in the first period at the 11:56 mark.
Shane Topf tied the game at one at the 11:55 mark of the second period.

Steve Low tallied the assists and the teams went into the final period tied at one.
Nazareth had a goal called back midway through the third period after the puck was knocked into the goal on a high stick. Neumann then came down the ice and
Johannes Sallila scored his first goal of the season when he redirected a pass from
Doug Rose at the 12:46 mark. Topf also added an assist.
The Golden Flyers pulled their goalie for the final 1:11, but could not get the equalizer and the Knights came away with the 2-1 win.
Mitch Wiebe 34 saves in net for the win. The Knights edged the Golden Flyers in shots, 39-34.
With the win, Neumann (15-8-3) will head to No. 1 seeded Hobart on Saturday for semifinal action. No. 2 Manhattanville will host No. 3 Utica in the other semifinal contest.
