FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Neumann University baseball team fell in the final game of the Methodist Diamond Invitational 6-5 to Marietta College on Sunday.
Chuck Trentler and
AJ Koscelansky each had two hits.
Kye Williams knocked in two runs on a homerun and scored runs.
Cody MacNair also plated two runs.
Grant Wallace started the game on the mound and went 2.0 innings.
Zach Youngberg went 4.0 innings in relief and took the loss.
Tyler Thomas,
Anthony Stricker and
Jerome Cevetello rounded out the innings on the mound.
Neumann struck first in the second inning. Williams reached on a leadoff walk and came around to score on a bases loaded walk by
Joe Nepi. Marietta answered with two runs in the bottom of the second.
In the third, MacNair reached on a walk and came around to score on a ground out by
Eric Bergman to tie the game at two.
The Knights scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Trenler opened the inning with a double. He scored on a single by Koscelansky. MacNair traded places with Koscelansky on a fielder's choice. Williams then knocked the ball out of the park for a two-run homerun.
The Pioneers scored one run in the bottom of the fifth. Marietta then capitalize on a bases loaded triple in the seventh inning to take a 6-5 lead.
Neumann (1-3) will head south to Florida for four games in Winter Haven. The Knights will face St. John Fisher on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 2:30 PM.
