CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Neumann University baseball team fell 3-2 against Washington College on Friday afternoon.
Eric Bergman had two hits, including a double.
AJ Koscelansky went 2-for-4 and batted in a run.
Kristian DeLuzio started on the mound, went 8.1 innings and took the loss. He allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out six.
Zach Youngberg and
Jerome Cevetello entered the game in relief in the ninth.
The game was scoreless until the Shoremen scored in the fifth. The Knights came back in their half of the sixth and added two runs to take a 2-1 lead.
Joey Pedorenko reached on a throwing error by the pitcher, which allowed
Sam Banks to score and
Chuck Trentler to advance to third. Koscelansky singled to left to score Trentler.
Washington tied the game in the seventh after scoring on a wild pitch. DeLuzio shut Washington down in the eighth with a 1-2-3 inning.
In the top of the ninth, the Bergman reached on a single.
Matt McLaughlin inch ran and made it to third, but was stranded.
After DeLuzio got the first batter out in the ninth inning, the Shoremen had the batter reach on a single. Youngberg entered the game with a runner on first, and struck out his first batter for the second out. The next batter singled to left to give Washington runners on first and second. Cevetello entered the game in relief of Youngberg and gave up an RBI single.
Neumann (4-8) returns home to face Widener University on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM.
