ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated Centenary College 9-2 on Friday afternoon in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC).
Chuck Trentler and
Sam Banks each had four hits and scored three runs.
Curt Yenchik had two hits, including a double and a homerun.
Eric Bergman had three RBI and two hits.
Kristian DeLuzio started on the mound and pitched a complete game, giving up two runs on 10 hits and striking out five for the win.
The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the first on a single by
Cody MacNair that scored Trentler. Neumann added three runs in the second.
Spencer Young doubled to left center to score Yenchik. Banks singled to drive in Young. Banks later scored on a balk to give Neumann a 4-0 advantage.
Neumann added two additional runs in the fourth on a single by
Kye Williams to score Banks and a single by Bergman to score Trentler.
Centenary got on the board in the fifth to make it 6-1. In the seventh, Bergman shot a 2 run single to left center to plate Trentler and Banks.
After the Cyclones added a second run in their half of the 8th, the Knights answered with a run of their own. Yenchik crushed a homerun to left field to complete the scoring and bring Neumann over Centenary 9-2.
Neumann (5-8, 1-0 CSAC) will travel to Centenary College for a pair of conference games tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is slated at 12:00 PM.
