Eighth Inning Rally Puts Knights over Bulldogs

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Neumann University baseball team defeated DeSales University 8-5 on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

Duncan Balara went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI, and two runs scored. Chuck Trentler and Eric Bergman each had two hits and two runs batted in. Trentler also scored two runs.

Kristian DeLuzio started on the mound and pitched 7.0 innings, allowing five runs, only two earned, on eight hits and striking out five to pick up his second win of the season. Zach Youngberg and Anthony Stricker each pitched a scoreless inning in relief and Stricker picked up his seconds save.

The Bulldogs took an early 3-0 lead with two unearned runs in the first and another run in the third. In the fourth inning, the Knights sent nine men to the plate and rallied for five runs. Balara doubled to left center to score Evan Worth from second and Kelvin Ortiz from first and bring Neumann to within one run. Trentler's single up the middle to score Balera tied the game at three. A walk by Kye Williams advanced Trentler to second. Bergman then doubled to right center to score Williams and Trentler and give Neumann a 5-3 lead.

The Bulldogs tied the game at five in their half of the fifth. The game would stay knotted at five until Neumann rallied again in the eighth. Cody MacNair doubled, then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Sam Banks. Balara singled to second base to plate MacNair. Trentler stepped up to the plate and blasted a triple to right center to drive in Balara. With Williams batting, Trentler scored on a wild pitch to give the Knights the 8-5 advantage.

Neumann (8-9) will return home on Tuesday to host Penn State Berks in non-conference action. First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM.
