ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated Penn State Berks 10-6 on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
AJ Koscelansky had four hits, including a triple, batted in four runs and scored one.
Eric Bergman had a pair of hits, one a homerun, batted in two runs and scored two.
Curt Yenchik hit a grand slam.
Patrick Graham started on the mound and pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on six hits and striking out three.
Chris Rupprecht pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in relief and gave up one hit to earn the win.
Zach Youngberg and
Anthony Stricker each pitched a scoreless inning to close out the game.
Penn State took an early 4-0 lead on the Knights, capitalizing on some errors. Bergman put Neumann on the board in the fourth with a solo homerun to left.
In the fifth, three straight walks to
Chuck Trentler,
Kye Williams and Bergman loaded up the bases with one out. With two outs, Koscelansky tripled to left center to clear the bases and tie the game at four.
The Nittany Lions added a run in the sixth, but the Knights answered with six runs in the seventh to take a 10-5 lead. Trentler led off the inning with a walk. Williams followed with a single. Bergman then singled up the middle to plate Trentler. MacNair reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases after a tag attempt on Williams at third was unsuccessful. Koscelansky singled to center to score Williams. With bases still loaded, Yenchik hit a grand slam to left field to secure the win for the Knights. Penn State would add an additional run in the ninth for the 10-6 final.
Neumann (9-9) will host John Jay College on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM.
