Anderson Dominate as Knights defeat Bloodhounds

ASTON, PA. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated John Jay 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

Matt Anderson pitched a complete game, allowing one run on four hits while striking out 11 to pick up his first win of the season. Anderson did not allow a hit after the second inning and retired 12 in a row from the fourth to the eighth inning. The only two Bloodhound baserunners after the second inning reached on an error and a walk.

Chuck Trentler led the Knights with three hits, one RBI, and one run scored. Curt Yenchik went 2-for-3 and knocked in two runs. Eric Bergman also batted in a run and scored two runs.

The teams traded runs in the second inning to open the scoring. John Jay scored off of a sacrifice bunt. The Knights answered as Yenchik led off with a single down the left field line. With two outs, Trentler singled to second, scoring Yenchik to tie the game.

The Knights exploded in the seventh inning, scoring four runs. Neumann opened the inning with four straight hits. Sam Banks started the inning with a double. Trentler followed with a single to left field to advance Banks to third. Kye Williams then knocked in Banks for the Knights to take the lead. Trentler scored the third run off of Bergman's single up the middle. Yenchik knocked in Bergman and Williams to take a 5-1 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth Bergman scored on a wild pitch to give the Knights the 6-1 advantage.

Neumann (10-9, 3-0 CSAC) will travel to Cairn University for conference action on Friday afternoon. First pitch is slated at 3:00 PM.
