LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated Cairn University 8-7 on Friday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
The first five batters in the Knight's lineup combined for 12 hits.
Chuck Trentler,
Kye Williams, and
Eric Bergman each had a pair of hits.
Cody MacNair went 3-for-5 with a homerun and four RBI.
AJ Koscelansky also went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored.
Nick Panissidi hit the game-winning homerun and scored two runs.
Kristian DeLuzio started on the mound and pitched 6.1 innings, allowing seven runs on 13 hits and striking out three.
Zach Youngberg pitched 1.2 scoreless innings to earn the win and improve to 2-0.
Anthony Stricker notched the save, his third, in the ninth.
The Highlanders took a 5-0 lead in the first inning. The Knights answered with two runs in the second to decrease their deficit to three. With one out, Koscelansky doubled to right center and Panissidi was hit by a pitch to put men on first and second. On the next play, Koscelansky scored from second on an error and Panissidi advanced to third.
Duncan Balara reached on a fielder's choice to score Panissidi.
Neumann took the lead with four runs in the fifth. After back-to-back singles by Trentler and Williams, Bergman singled to left to score Trentler. MacNair brought home three runs with a homerun to center.
Cairn tied the game in its half of the fifth and took a 7-6 lead in the seventh. In the eighth, the Knights tied the game once again. Trentler led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a balk. Bergman reached on an error, which advanced Trentler to third. MacNair singled to left to drive home Trentler for his fourth RBI of the game.
With the score tied at seven in the ninth, Panissidi led off the inning with a homerun for the eventual winning run.
Neumann (11-9, 4-0 CSAC) will host Cairn for a pair of games on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 1:00 PM, changed from the scheduled start time of 12:00 PM.
