WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Neumann University baseball team split a doubleheader with Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday morning in its final games in Florida. MSOE won the first game 6-5 in eight innings. The Knights then took game two 7-1.
Game one took eight innings to decide. The teams entered the eighth inning tied at two. Neumann put three runs on the board in the top of the inning to take a 5-2 lead.
Eric Bergman knocked a two-run triple to score
Kye Williams and
Cody MacNair. With two outs,
Curt Yenchik walked and came around to score on a
Jonathan DelValle single.
In the bottom of the eighth, six straight Raiders reached base on either a walk, hit or hit by pitch to plate four runs and win the game.
Neumann got on the board in the second inning when Williams scored. MSOE plated two runs to take a 2-1 lead. The Knights tied the game at two in the fifth inning when DelValle scored on a single by
Spencer Young.
Matt Anderson started the game and went 5.0 innings. He allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits.
Anthony Stricker went 2.0 innings. He allowed three runs on two hits and walked two batters.
Jerome Cevetello faced four batters in the eighth inning, allowed one run and took the loss.
In game two, Neumann's bats came alive as it plated seven runs on 10 hits. MacNair and Yenchik each hit a homerun.
Grant Wallace pitched a complete game and allowed just one run on seven hits while striking out six.
The Knights scored their first two runs in the bottom of the second. Yenchik was hit by a pitch. He scored on a double by DelValle. DelValle came around to score on a double by
Joe Nepi.
Neumann added four runs in the third inning. Bergman hit a two-run double to score Williams and
AJ Koscelansky. Yenchik then hit a two-run shot. MacNair hit his solo shot in the fifth inning for a 7-0 lead.
The Raiders scored their lone run in the sixth inning.
Neumann (3-5) will make a stop at Christopher Newport on its way north tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is slated for 2:00 PM.
