Knights Come From Behind to Defeat Red Hawks

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated Montclair State University 13-9 on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
 
Jonathan DelValle had three hits, including a two-run homerun and a triple, batted in three runs and scored two. AJ Koscelansky also had three hits, including a triple, two RBI and a run scored. Eric Bergman had a two-run homerun and Duncan Balara had a solo homerun. Cody MacNair had a pair of hits and two RBI. Each team at 14 knocks in the game.
 
Kevin Giffin started on the mound and went 0.1 innings. He allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits. Kristian DeLuzio pitched 3.2 innings and allowed five runs, three earned, on seven hits while striking out six. Grant Wallace pitched 4.0 innings of scoreless, one hit baseball and struck out four to pick up his second win. Jerome Cevetello pitched a scoreless ninth.
 
The Red Hawks jumped out to a four run lead in the first and added two additional runs in the second. DelValle decreased the Knights' deficit with a two-run homerun in the bottom half of the second. The Knights got three runs back in the third on a two-run homerun by Bergman and an RBI single by DelValle to make it 6-5.
 
Montclair State added three runs in the fourth for a 9-5 game. Neumann added one run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. In the fourth, MacNair hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Chuck Trentler. Balara homered the left in the fifth, and Koscelansky singled to left to score Trentler to make it 9-8 and bring Neumann to within one run of the Red Hawks.
 
The Knights capitalized on some Montclair errors in the seventh and put five runs on the board. DelValle started off the inning with a triple. With one out, Curt Yenchik walked and Matt McLaughlin entered as a pinch runner. McLaughlin advanced to second on a wild pitch. DelValle scored on a throwing error after Trentler reached on a fielder's choice. Bergman reached on a throwing error, and Trentler came around the score on that error. MacNair singled to left to drive home Bergman and Koscelansky tripled to score MacNair for the 13-9 final.
 
Neumann (16-14) will host Widener University on Monday, April 25. First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM.
