ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse team defeated Elizabethtown College 14-13 in sudden victory on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Jordan Hopkins led the Knights with four goals and six draw controls.
Rebecca Dolenti and
Kaitlyn Conrad added three apiece.
Diana Caicedo netted two goals and had an assist.
Brittany Cassidy and
Alexa McIntyre each notched a goal. McIntyre's goal was the game winner.
Becca Wallace made 18 saves in net.
Hopkins put the Knights on the board first with a goal at the 26:44 mark. The Blue Jays answered with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead. Dolenti scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at three.
Conrad tied the game at four with a goal at 15:29 and Caicedo added a goal at 7:59, but it wasn't enough to match Elizabethtown's seven first half goals. The Knights entered halftime trailing 7-5.
Hopkins started off the second half strong, scoring two goals within seven seconds to tie the game at seven. Caicedo scored her second goal at 25:28 to put Neumann up by one. Both teams exchanged goals for the rest of the first fifteen minutes of the second half.
With the Knights trailing 12-11, Conrad scored two straight goals to give Neumann a 13-12 advantage. With 1:17 left to play in the second half, the Blue Jays tied the game at 13 and it would proceed into overtime.
The Blue Jays had possession for much of the first three minutes of OT, but couldn't find a good look to the net. Neumann gained possession at the draw for the start of the second three minutes, and with 1:46 left to play, McIntyre was able to find the back of the net on a free position shot to give the Knights the 14-13 victory.
Elizabethtown edged Neumann in shots 41-37. The Knights had the advantage in ground balls, 32-29.
Neumann (8-3) will host Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday in conference action. The game is set to begin at 11:00 AM.
