ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated Gwynedd Mercy University 4-3 on Friday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Cody MacNair had two hits, two RBI and scored a run.
Kye Williams went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
Duncan Balara and
Eric Bergman had two hits apiece.
AJ Koscelansky had a double and scored a run, and
Jonathan DelValle had a two run single.
Kristian DeLuzio started on the mound and pitched 7.2 innings, allowing three runs on 11 hits and striking out three to pick up his third win.
Chris Rupprecht pitched in relief for the third out in the eighth.
Anthony Stricker pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his fourth save of the season.
The Knights took an early 3-0 lead over the Griffins in the first inning. Williams doubled down the left field line and advanced to third on a flyout by Bergman. MacNair singled up the middle to score Williams. Koscelansky doubled to left to advance MacNair to third, and DelValle singled to right center to drive home MacNair and Koscelansky.
Gwynedd added a run in the fourth to decrease the Knights lead to two. Neumann got a run back in the seventh on a single up the middle by MacNair to score Williams.
The Griffins gained momentum in the eighth and scored two runs to make it a 4-3 game. They threatened in the ninth with a runner on second, but Stricker shut them down to earn the save and give the Knights a 4-3 victory.
Neumann (12-10, 5-0 CSAC) will travel to Gwynedd Mercy on Sunday, delayed from Saturday, for a pair of CSAC games. First pitch is slated for 12:00 PM.
