LA PLUME, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell 5-4 to Keystone College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) semifinal game. Action got underway on Friday afternoon and concluded on Saturday morning.
The Giants scored a run in the third and three in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. The Knights were held without a hit until the fifth inning When
Cody MacNair led off with a single. Neumann got on the board with a run in the sixth inning as
Eric Bergman doubled in
Kye Williams.
Neumann added two unearned runs in the eighth inning to get to within one.
Joey Pedorenko and
Tyler Thomas led off with back-to-back singles. Pedorenko then scored on a throwing error by the pitcher. Thomas scored on a ground out by Williams.
In the top of the ninth,
AJ Koscelansky led off with a double and reached third on a wild pitch. With
Curt Yenchik batting, and the count 1-1 the skies opened up and the game was suspended until Saturday morning.
When action resumed,
Kyle Weller doubled to score Koscelansky and tie the game at four. The Knights stranded two men on base.
The Giants led off the bottom of the ninth with a double and loaded the bases with back-to-back walks. Keystone then won on a walk-off single to take the game 5-4.
Zach Cooney started the game and went the first 3.2 innings. He allowed four runs on five hits and struck out three.
Matt Anderson went 3.2 innings in relief and allowed three hits.
Anthony Stricker came in in the eighth inning and allowed one run on three hits and struck out three. He took the loss.
Neumann (20-18) will place against the winner of the Immaculata/Gwynedd Mercy game later Saturday afternoon.
