Softball to Host 2016 CSAC Softball Championship Tournament

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team finished the season 21-1 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action and will be the No. 1 seed heading into the playoffs this weekend. The Knights will host the CSAC Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
 
Neumann and Cabrini College (No. 2 seed) received a bye in the first round. The two first round games saw No. 6 Cedar Crest upset No. 3 Gwynedd Mercy 10-5 and No. 4 Marywood also defeat No. 5 Immaculata.
 
The Knights will face Cedar Crest in the 12:00 PM game. Cabrini and Marywood will kick things off at 10:00 AM.
 
Eight Knights received postseason honors. Julia Cox and Danielle Grayson were both named to the CSAC First Team All-Conference. Lauren WilkieMelissa Rozumalski and Sarah Murray all received second team honors. Haley BroomellBecky Guinto and Jackie Schneider received honorable mention accolades. Mary Cotton was named to the sportsmanship team.
 
Neumann finished the regular season 24-14 overall. Cox started in all 38 games during the regular season and had a batting average of .438. The freshman had a team high 49 hits, including 11 doubles, two triples and three homeruns. She scored 36 runs while knocking in 29.
 
Grayson batted .420 in 33 games, starting 29. She had 34 hits with seven doubles and a team high seven homeruns. The senior led the team with 41 RBI and scored 15 runs. Wilkie went 8-4 from the circle with three shutouts and two saves. She made 16 appearances, starting 13 games and pitching 12 complete games. In 86.2 innings, she struck out 55 batters and had an ERA of 2.26.
 
The Knights went 6-0 against the teams coming to campus this weekend. Neumann has qualified for the post season in the past 12 seasons and have won six conference Championships. The Knights will look to take number seven this weekend.
 
Action starts at 10:00 AM on Saturday with four games. The Championship game will be at 12:00 PM on Sunday.
