LA PLUME, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team dropped a pair of games at No. 12 Keystone College on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Game scores were 10-4 and 4-3.
In game one, the Knights took an early 3-0 lead on a three-run shot by
Cody MacNair.
Chuck Trentler led off the game with a walk, followed by a
Kye Williams single to be on base for the homerun. The Giants scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning.
Keystone tied the game with three runs in the third inning. The Giants then took the lead with six runs in the sixth inning.
Neumann scored one more run in the top of the seventh. With one out, MacNair walked.
Sam Banks came in to pinch run and came around to score on a single by
Curt Yenchik.
Kristian DeLuzio started the game for the Knights. He went 5.2 innings and allowed 10 runs, nine earned, on 10 hits. He struck out three.
Chris Rupprecht rounded out the sixth inning and allowed a hit.
In game two, Neumann again scored first, this time with a single run in the third inning.
Tyler Thomas walked to lead off the inning and scored on a ground out by Williams. MacNair then put the Knights up 2-0 when he scored on a sacrifice fly by
Kyle Weller.
The Giants took back the lead with one swing in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run homerun. Keystone added an insurance run with a solo homerun in the sixth.
In the top of the seventh, the Knights put the first three men on base. Trentler scored on a sacrifice fly by MacNair. Neumann then grounded into a game-ending double play and the comeback fell short.
Zach Cooney went 6.0 innings and allowed four runs on six hits and struck out a pair.
Neumann (19-16, 11-6 CSAC) and Keystone will wrap up the regular season tomorrow with a single game back in Aston. First pitch is slated for 1:00 PM.
