ASTON, Pa. – If there was any question about the resiliency of the Neumann University field hockey team after they suffered their first loss of the 2016 season Friday, those questions were answered today versus Virginia Wesleyan College. The Knights outplayed the Marlins from start to finish in a convincing 2-0 win on Sunday afternoon.
Becky Guinto scored both goals to lead the Knights to victory.
The first half would start out slowly as both teams took some time to feel each other out. The game would remain tied until the 32
nd minute when Guinto ripped home a shot from just inside the circle to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. The game would head into halftime with Neumann holding a 9-5 edge in shots.
Neumann would add to their lead 14 minutes into the second half, as Guinto again found the back of the net off a feed from
Julia Mustin. The second goal of the game was more than enough for goalie
Caitlyn Johnson, who finished the game with eight saves in net and her first shutout of the season.
Neumann (3-1) will next take the field for a non-conference matchup at Swarthmore College on Wednesday. Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
