SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team fell 4-3 in overtime at Swarthmore College on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Julia Mustin netted all three goals for the Knights.
Alexis Damask tallied a defensive save.
Caitlyn Johnson made seven saves in net.
The Garnet opened the scoring in the seventh minute on a penalty stroke. Swarthmore took a 2-0 lead in the 17
th minute.
Mustin scored her first goal a minute later, as she redirected a shot from
Becky Guinto. The assist was Guinto's 19th of her career, setting the program record set by Lauren Hood (2006-09) and Amanda Biagi (2004-07). In the 23
rd minute, Mustin tallied her second goal of the game on a penalty corner.
Noelle Durham had the assist and the teams went into halftime tied at two.
Early in the second half, the Garnet retook the lead, 3-2. Mustin completed her hat trick in the 47th minute as she buried a rebound in an open net.
It would take extra time to decide the game and Swarthmore scored just 2:09 into overtime to come away with the win.
The shots were even, as each team notched 19. The Garnet edged the Knights in shots on goal, 12-11.
"It's tough to lose in overtime but it was still a hard fought battle," says Coach
Sarah Kurpel. "We're excited and looking forward to conference game starting next week."
Neumann (3-2) will travel to Kean University on Saturday for non-conference action beginning at 5:00 PM.
