Volleyball Goes 2-1 at Day Two of Knights Invitational

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University volleyball team went 2-1 at day two of the Knights Invitational. The Knights battled to a 3-2 win over Widener in the first match. Neumann then fell to Moravian 3-1 in the second match before defeating Baruch 3-0 in the final match of the day.
 
Rachael Hoffman was named to the All-Tournament team.
 
In the win over Widener, the match went back and forth with the Knights winning sets one (28-26), three (25-22) and five (15-12) while the Pride won sets two (25-11) and four (25-17). Melanie Malseed and Hoffman led the Knights with 11 kills each. Hayley Glah added 10 kills. Alex Koppany handed out 20 assists while Rachel Cray dished out 18.
 
Nikki Collevechio anchored the defense with 20 digs. Glah tallied 12 while Malseed added 10.
 
Against Moravian, Neumann came away with a win at set one, 25-19. The Greyhounds would take the next three sets, but by a combined total of seven points. Set two went extra before Moravian came away with a 30-28 win. Set three was close as well, 25-23 and set four was no different, 25-22.
 
Glah led Neumann with 14 kills in the match. Hoffman tallied 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .346. Malseed added 10 kills. Cray handed out 34 assists and led four Knights in double-digits in digs with 21. Collevechio had 17 digs, Glah 14 and Ali Fry added 11. Glah and Collevechio each had three service aces as the team notched 11 in the match.
 
In the final match of the Invitational, the Knights took a 3-0 decision against Baruch, 25-15, 25-18, 25-21. Hoffman hit .333 with eight kills. Cray handed out 25 assists and tallied 12 digs. Collevechio added 13 digs.
 
Neumann (3-8) will get back into conference play on Thursday when it hosts Immaculata. The match is slated to get started at 7:00 PM.
