Harrell Nets Game-Winner is OT win over Wolverines

DOVER, Del. – The Neumann University field hockey team defeated Wesley College 2-1 in overtime in non-conference action Tuesday evening.

Jessica Harrell lifted the Knights to victory as she capitalized on a breakaway from midfield in the 92nd minute. The senior made her way down the field and backhanded the ball in the net for the game-winner.

Harrell's game-winning goal is the ninth of her career, setting the program record set by Rachael DiCicco (2005-08). The senior's goal is the 40th of her career, tying the career record.

The Wolverines opened the scoring early, finding the net just 4:16 into the match. In the 30th minute, the Knights took advantage of a penalty corner to tie the game. Julia Mustin ripped a shot past the keeper off a pass from Becky Guinto. The teams would play a scoreless second half and first overtime before Harrell broke the tie for the win.

The Knights outshot the Wolverines 26-17 overall and 15-5 on net. Caitlyn Johnson made three saves in net for the win. Danni Hall notched a defensive save in the win.

"We are excited to get this win before we start our conference games," said Coach Kurpel. "This was a hard fought and well deserved win."

Neumann (4-3) will open conference action this weekend as it heads to Cabrini University. The game is slated for a 12:00 PM start.
