POTSDAM, N.Y. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team completed its two game series with SUNY Potsdam with a 4-1 loss in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West action this afternoon.
Angeline Taiariol scored her first career goal in the loss.
Bek Lucas also scored for the Knights to continue a five-game point streak dating back to December 3rd.
Julia Fair was stellar in goal, making 42 saves on 46 shots in the loss.
The first period would see the Bears control play, outshooting the Knights by a count of 14-5 on the strength on two power plays. Despite being heavily outshot, Neumann would keep the game tied thanks to some great goaltending by Fair. The senior net-minder stopped all 14 shots that came her way to send the game to the first intermission level at 0-0.
Potsdam would continue to throw pucks at the Neumann goal early in the second stanza, generating eight of the period's first ten shots on goal. Fair continued to play well in net, but the Bears finally broke through with a pair of goals just seven seconds apart to take a 2-0 lead. Taiariol would score her first career goal for Neumann later in the period, but Potsdam would also tack on two more power-play goals to take a commanding 4-1 lead heading to the third.
Neumann would get back into the game in the third as Lucas would score at the 6:30 mark to make it 4-2, but that was as close as they would get. Potsdam would keep the Knights scoreless for the remainder of the game to skate away with a 4-2 win. Shots for the game would finish 46-25 in favor of the Bears.
Neumann (6-8-1, 2-5-1 ECAC West) returns home next weekend to take on ECAC West foe Oswego State in a pair of games at IceWorks. The first game is scheduled for Friday, January 20th at 7:00 PM.
