Men's Basketball Stays Unbeaten in CSAC With Overtime Win

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team picked up a thrilling 85-83 overtime victory over Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) rival Rosemont College on Wednesday night. The win marked the team's ninth straight conference win to remain undefeated atop the CSAC standings.

Four Neumann players reached double-figures in the victory. DeShawn Lowman led the way for Neumann with 26 points and eight rebounds, while Tyaire Hudson tallied 18 points, five rebounds and five assists. Carl Wallace and Darian Barnes were also forces on both sides of the court. Wallace finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, while Barnes registered 12 points, nine rebounds and a block of his own.

After a comfortable win last Saturday versus Centenary University, Neumann would have its hands full from start to finish against a game Rosemont team. A back and forth first half would see Neumann jump out to an early lead. A Wallace layup with 7:17 remaining in the half gave the Knights a seven point cushion at 30-23 for their largest lead of the game. From there, the Ravens began to claw their way back. Rosemont would close the half on a 21-8 run to take a six point lead into halftime, leading by a score of 44-38. Lowman would carry the Knights offensively in the first half, scoring a team-high 12 points.

The Ravens would continue to build their lead early in the second half. Rosemont would score seven of the half's first nine points to boost their lead to 11 for their largest lead of the night at 51-40. The Knights would not go quietly though. Showing the resiliency they've had all year, Neumann battled its way back into the game. The Knights would catch fire midway through the half, using a 25-8 run to open a six point lead with just 6:44 to play. Hudson led the way for the Knights during this stretch, scoring all nine of his second half points during the run.

Unfortunately for Neumann, Rosemont would show its own resiliency down the stretch. The Ravens responded with a mini-run of their own to bring the score back to level at 71-71. Neumann would have a chance to win the game late with a Hudson three at the buzzer, but the shot was off the mark and the two teams would head to overtime.

The extra session would continue to be a back and forth affair. Neumann would take control in the first part of overtime, leading by as many as six points before the Ravens came storming back. A Rosemont free throw would tie the game at 83-83 with just 14 seconds left to play, but the Knights would not be denied. Hudson drove hard to the basket on Neumann's final possession and was fouled with four seconds remaining. The junior would hit both foul shots to give Neumann a two point edge that they would not relinquish. Rosemont would have a chance to win the game late, but a three-point attempt hit the rim as time expired to give the Knights a hard-fought win.

Neumann (15-1, 9-0 CSAC) returns to the court on Saturday, January 21st for a home game versus CSAC rival Clarks Summit University. Tip-off at the Mirenda Center is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
