Neumann Falls in Final Second at Scarlet Raptors

CAMDEN, N.J. – The No. 17 Neumann University men's basketball team dropped its first game on Monday evening, 68-67, at Rutgers University-Camden.
 
Carl Wallace and DeShawn Lowman each scored 19 points for the Knights. Tyaire Hudson added 17 points. Darian Barnes grabbed 11 rebounds.
 
The Knights came out and took an early 12-6 lead. The teams went back and forth and Neumann still held a six-point advantage, 21-15, midway through the half. The Scarlet-Raptors then went on a 9-3 run to tie the game at 24. Rutgers-Camden went on an 8-0 run, including two three-pointers, to take a 32-25 lead with five minutes remaining before halftime. Lowman scored the final three points of the half on free throws, but the Knights were down 38-32 at the break.
 
Neumann opened the second half with a 13-3 run to take a 45-41 lead. Second half magic started to run on. Rutgers-Camden tied the game at 49 with 8:32 left in regulation. Lowman and Hudson each scored a basket for a four point lead. The Scarlet Raptors answered with a 13-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 62-53 advantage.
 
The Knights found the basket and scored the next five points. With 1:18 left in regulation, the Scarlet Raptors held a five point lead, 65-60. Wallace connected on his layup. After a timeout, RUC missed on its shot and Wallace grabbed the rebound. Hudson hit his layup, off an assist from Lowman, to get within one point, 65-64, with 58 seconds on the clock. The Scarlet Raptors hit a jumper with 26 seconds left for a three point game. Neumann came down the court and Hudson hit a three-pointer to tie the game with 12 seconds remaining.
 
With 1.7 seconds left, the Knights were called for a foul. The Scarlet Raptors missed the first free throw, but hit the second to hand Neumann its first loss of the season.
 
Neumann (12-1) head back into conference action on Wednesday evening. The Knights head to Immaculata with an 8:00 PM tip-off.
