ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Cabrini University on Wednesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Set scores were 28-26, 25-13 and 25-22.
Melanie Malseed tallied 10 kills for the Knights.
Rachel Cray handed out 23 assists and notched 18 digs.
Bianca Harbold had 17 digs and Malseed added 14.
Bridget Lozier had two solo blocks and three block assists. Malseed added four block assists.
In the first set, the Cavaliers took and early 14-4 lead. The Knights started to chip their way back into the set and got to within four, 18-14, on a kill by Malseed. A service ace by Malseed got Neumann to within two, 22-20. A kill by
Shayne Sullivan tied the set at 23 and the Knights took a 24-23 edge on an attack error by Cabrini.
Cabrini scored the next two points to take a 25-24 lead. Two kills by Sullivan put Neumann back up 26-25. Three straight attack errors by the Knights gave the Cavaliers a 28-26 first set win.
In the third set, the Knights built a 12-8 lead, capped on a kill by
Rachael Hoffman. The Cavaliers came back to tie the game at 12. The teams then went back and forth and were tied at 21. Cabrini scored the next three points to get to match point. Neumann tallied one point, but could not get any closer and Cabrini closed out the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
Neumann (10-19, 5-2 CSAC) will be right back on the court tomorrow as it heads to Marywood for a CSAC match-up beginning at 7:00 PM.
