SCRANTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's volleyball team bounced back from a tough loss Wednesday with a resounding 3-0 win over Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) rival Marywood University on Thursday evening. Set scores were 25-17, 25-18 and 25-20.
Melanie Malseed led the Knights with 15 kills and hit .412.
Bridget Lozier hit .438 and finished with eight kills.
Rachel Cray handed out 29 assists.
Bianca Harbold tallied 10 digs.
Rachael Hoffman finished the match with five blocks.
Neumann set the tone for the night with a pair of kills from Hoffman to open the first set. The frame remained close, but the Knights would pull away late in the set with six straight points off service from Lozier to win by a count of 25-17.
The second set would not start as planned for Neumann, as the team would fall behind by a score of 5-1 early. The Knights would fight back though, scoring eight of the next nine points to take the lead 9-6. Neumann would then score six points in a row on serves from Harbold late in the second frame to clinch another set by a score of 25-18.
The third and final set would be the closest of the match. Marywood held a 13-12 lead midway through the set, but the Knights would close the match on a 13-7 run to seal the win.
Neumann (11-19, 6-2 CSAC) returns to action with a pair of matches on Saturday. The Knights first head to Widener University for a non-conference matchup at 11:00 AM before returning home for a CSAC contest versus Notre Dame of Maryland University at 3:00 PM.
