ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball defeated Notre Dame of Maryland University 3-1 in a key Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match-up on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights took the first two sets, 25-17, 25-10. The Gators won set three 25-22. Neumann sealed the win in set four, 25-22.
Prior to the match, Neumann honored its two seniors
Shayne Sullivan and
Ali Frey.
Melanie Malseed led four Knights in double-digits in kills with 14.
Rachael Hoffman,
Bridget Lozier and Sullivan all added 12 kills.
Rachel Cray handed out 44 assists.
Bianca Harbold and Kristen Longueira each had 17 digs to anchor the defense. Cray tallied 14 and
Carlee Herrin added 11. Lozier also had three block solos and two block assists.
Neumann won the first two sets by 25-17 and 25-10 scores. A kill by Cray sealed the first set while a Harbold kill but the Knights up 2-0.
The third set was a battle back and forth. The teams were knotted at 22 before the Gators tallied the next three points for the set win.
The fourth set started out back and forth. With the teams tied at 11, the Knights started to pull away, taking a 20-15 lead. The Gators were not going down without a fight and battled their way back to tie the game at 22. This time, Neumann went on to score the final points, on a kill by Cray and three kills by Malseed.
Neumann (12-20, 7-2 CSAC) will head to Centenary on Tuesday for its final two CSAC matches of the regular season. The Knights will face Cairn at 6:00 PM and Centenary at 8:00 PM.
