GENESEO, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's hockey team dropped its season opening game on the road at 12
th ranked SUNY Geneseo by a score of 6-1 on Friday night.
Liam Board tallied the team's first goal of the season off assists from
Joe Mitchell and
Jake Davidson.
Anthony Pupplo got the start in net, making 39 saves in the loss.
Neumann played a solid first period in a hostile environment on the road. The Knights weathered the early storm and despite being outshot 18-12 in the period, headed to the first intermission tied at 1-1. Geneseo notched the first goal of the game on the power play at the 12:02 mark of the frame, but the Knights would answer back late in the period. Off a quick counter from the defensive zone, Board streaked down the left wing and ripped home a low shot that beat the Geneseo net-minder to knot the game up.
Unfortunately for the Knights, Geneseo would begin to pull away in the final two periods.. Using two second period goals and three third period tallies, the hosts would score five unanswered markers to seal the win by a score of 6-1. Shots for the game would finish 45-32 in favor of Geneseo.
Neumann (0-1) will look to find the win column tomorrow night when it travels to SUNY Brockport for its second game of the season. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
