Women’s Volleyball Comes Back to Defeat Mighty Macs in Five Sets

IMMACULATA, Pa. – It took five sets, but the Neumann University women's volleyball team came from down 2-0 to pick up a 3-2 win at Immaculata University on Tuesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
 
The Mighty Macs took the first two sets, 26-24 and 25-20. The Knights rallied back to win sets three (25-21) and four (25-18) to force a fifth set. Neumann completed the come back with a 15-10 win in set five.
 
Melanie Malseed tallied 18 kills with a hitting percentage of .326 in the five sets. Shayne Sullivan added 17 kills. Rachael Hoffman notched 13 and Bridget Lozier had 12. Carlee Herrin handed out 49 assists.
 
Malseed picked up 21 digs to lead four Knights in double-digits. Bianca Harbold tallied 20 digs while Hayley Glah and Kirsten Longueira each added 12.
 
Set three was a battle back and forth and the teams were tied at 20 as the Mighty Macs looked to take the match. A kill by Hoffmann started three straight points by the Knights. After Immaculata got one point back for a 23-21 score, Sullivan tallied a kill for set point. Longueira sealed the set win with a service ace.
 
During the fourth set, the Knights took a 15-14 lead and rattled off six straight points while Harbold was serving for a 21-15 lead. A few miscues from Immaculata and Neumann forced the fifth set.
 
The Knights scored the first four points in the fifth set. Glah completed the comeback win with a service ace.
 
Neumann (9-15, 4-1 CSAC) will head to Cedar Crest on Thursday for more CSAC action beginning at 7:00 PM.
