Women’s Volleyball Falls in Two Matches at Garnet Quad

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Garnet Quad at Swarthmore College on Saturday. The Knights fell 3-0 to Swarthmore and 3-1 to Catholic.

Melanie Malseed was named to the All-Tournament team.
 
In the first match of the day, the Knights fell to the host Garnet in three sets, 25-11, 25-19 and 28-26.
 
Malseed tallied 11 kills for Neumann. Carlee Herrin dished out 18 assists. Bianca Harbold notched 15 digs and Malseed added 12.
 
In the third set, the Garnet held control for the first part of the set. With a 24-19 lead, the Knights rattled off five straight points to knot the game at 24. The teams traded points for a 26-all score before Swarthmore got two kills to seal the win.
 
Against Catholic, the Knights won the first match 25-22. The Cardinals came back to win the next three sets, 25-19, 25-21, 25-19.
 
Shayne Sullivan tallied 13 kills to lead the Knights. Bridget Lozier and Malseed each had 10 kills in the match. Rachel Cray handed out 18 assists while Herrin added 16. Kirsten Longueira tallied 19 digs while Harbold had 16 and Malseed added 15.
 
In the first set, the teams were knotted at 21. Two kills by Malseed and one by Cray put the Knights up 24-21. A Malseed kill clinched the first set win for the Knights.
 
Neumann (10-18) heads into conference action for five of the next six matches, beginning with Cabrini at home on Wednesday evening. The match is slated to begin at 7:00 PM.
