ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Rutgers University – Camden 96-65 on Wednesday evening in the 2017-18 season opener.
Raquan Brown-Johnson led five Knights in double-figures with 17 points.
Tyaire Hudson added 15 points.
Billy Cassidy and
Jordan Collins each netted 13 points and
Aaron Johnson-Chavis scored 12. Eleven of the 13 player to see the court contributed at least two points. The team shot 50.0% from the floor and 82.4% from the line.
Johnson-Chavis opened the game with a dunk 12 seconds in and the Knights never looked back. The freshman then added two free throws for a 4-0 lead in a game Neumann never trailed in. The Knights hit a double-digit lead, 17-6, with 12:53 left in the first half. Neumann steadily built its lead over the rest of the half and took a 53-28 lead into halftime.
The Knights did not let up in the second half and cruised their way to the 96-65 season opening win.
Neumann (1-0) will host Eastern on Saturday evening in non-conference action beginning at 6:00 PM.
