Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Lucas' Record Breaking Goal Not Enough as Knights Fall to Utica

UTICA, N.Y. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team saw its five game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon, falling at United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) rival Utica College by a score of 4-1.

Bek Lucas was the lone bright-spot in the loss, scoring Neumann's only goal to set a new program record for goals in a career with 57. The senior forward passes Jessica Schroeder, who scored 56 goals in her four year Neumann career from 2007-2011.

In a penalty filled first frame, Utica took control of the game midway through the period. The Pioneers started the scoring at the 13:09 mark and then doubled their lead two minutes later to take an early 2-0 lead. Lucas would get the Knights back in it late in the period though, scoring her 12th goal of the season with just 13 seconds left to break the scoring record and make it 2-1 heading to intermission.

Any momentum the Knights gained from Lucas' record-breaking goal was squashed early in the second. Neumann squandered three early power plays, including a minute and 48 seconds on a two-man advantage. After killing the penalties, the Pioneers rallied to score twice in the second, outshooting the Knights by a count of 22-5 in the period.

Neumann fought hard to get back into the game in the third, but a tough Utica defense kept the Knights off the board and the game finished 4-1 in favor of the Pioneers. Shots for the game ended with Utica holding a 41-16 edge.

Neumann (5-2-1, 3-1 UCHC) will have a short break before returning to the ice on Tuesday, November 22nd for a non-conference matchup versus Sacred Heart University. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
