ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team punched its way to the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship match with a 3-0 win over Keystone College on Thursday evening in a semifinal match-up.
Melanie Malseed led the Knights with 17 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
Rachel Cray handed out 33 assists and tallied 11 digs. Malseed added 10 digs.
Rachael Hoffman hit .412 and finished with eight kills.
The Giants jumped out to a 3-0 lead to start the match. The Knights chipped their way back in and tied the game at six. The teams would go back and forth, but with Neumann holding a 17-16 lead, the Knights scored five of the next six points for a 22-17 advantage and Keystone called a timeout.
Kirsten Longueira came out with a service aces out of the timeout. A kill by
Hayley Glah sealed the first set win 25-20.
The second set went back and forth as well and the teams were tied at 11. Neumann scored the next five points to take a 16-11 lead. The Knights would continue to keep the pressure on and come away with the 25-18 second set win.
The third set started out just like the first two. With a 10-9 lead, the Knights went on to score 13 of the next 15 points for a 23-11 lead. Two kills by
Bridget Lozier sealed the win, 25-12, for Neumann.
Neumann (16-21) will head to Cabrini, the No. 1 seed in the postseason, on Saturday to play for the CSAC Championship.
