ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team held off Rosemont College 81-74 on Wednesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Raquan Brown-Johnson led all scorers with 24 points.
Aaron Johnson-Chavis notched a double-double with 20 points and 12 boards.
Tyaire Hudson added 19 points, including going 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. The team was 21-for-25 from the line and allowed the Ravens only eight chances from the free throw line (5-for-8).
The first seven minutes of the game featured eight lead changes and four tied scores. With a 13-13 game, the Knights scored the next 16 points to jump out to a 29-13 lead. A three-pointer by the Ravens, one of nine in the game, broke the run. Rosemont used the shot from beyond the arc to chip into Neumann's lead. The Knights took a 45-35 lead into halftime.
Back-to-back three's by
Billy Cassidy in the beginning of the second half gave Neumann a 12 points lead, 51-39. Over the next four minutes, the Ravens went on a 13-4 run to pull within three, 55-52. Rosemont made it a one point game, 59-58, with 11:14 on the clock. Hudson answered with a layup-and-one to start an 8-0 run for Neumann.
The game would come down to the final few minutes. Rosemont hit another three-pointer for a 75-72 score with 1:22 on the clock. Neither team would score over the next minute. Johnson-Chavis connected on the next important bucket, followed by a lay-up by Hudson for a 79-72 game. Hudson sealed the win with two free-throws with 0.6 seconds left on the clock.
Neumann (4-1, 2-0 CSAC) will travel to Keystone on Saturday for a CSAC doubleheader with the women. The men are slated to tip-off at 3:00 PM.
