SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team picked up its first road win of the season, 83-70, at the University of Scranton on Monday evening in non-conference action.
Tyaire Hudson led all players with 29 points.
Aaron Johnson-Chavis netted 19 points, going 8-for-8 from the floor.
Billy Cassidy added 10 points and dished out five assists.
The first half remained close, with the biggest lead of the half being just six points, 10-6 Scranton, early on. A layup-and-one by Hudson tied the game at 12 with 12:16 left in the first half. Two free-throws by
Raquan Brown-Johnson put Neumann in the lead for the first time, 14-12. The Royals answered right back with a three-pointer to take back the edge.
Isaiah Wilmore hit a three-pointer with 14 second left before halftime to give the Knights a 36-32 lead at the break.
The Knights started the second half on a 14-7 run and took an 11 point lead, 50-39, on a three-pointer by Cassidy. With 5:48 left in regulation and Neumann holding a 66-56 lead, the Knights scored six straight points to increase their lead to 72-56. With under three minutes remaining, Neumann was up 79-61. The Royals hit three three-pointers in the final two minutes to try and mount a comeback, but Johnson-Chavis and Cassidy responded with baskets of their own to hold the lead and come away with the win.
Neumann (5-2) will host Delaware Valley on Wednesday evening for more non-conference action beginning at 7:00 PM.
