ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Cairn University Highlanders, 103-74 on Saturday afternoon as the team celebrated senior day. The win is the team's 15 Colonial State Athletic Conference (CSAC) win of the season, setting a program record.
Prior to the game, the Knights recognized its seniors:
Carl Wallace,
Darian Barnes,
Matt O'Keefe,
DeShawn Lowman and manager Jeremy Patterson.
Five Knights tallied double-figures in the point column led by Lowman with 29, followed by Wallace with 16.
Billy Cassidy added a total of 15 points as he hit five three-pointers. Barnes added 11 points and
Tyaire Hudson notched 10. The team shot 60.8% from the floor.
O'Keefe had the first basket of the game and Neumann never looked back. A three-pointer by Cassidy midway through the half started a 10-2 run for the Knights to increase their lead to 28-16. Neumann built its lead to as many as 18 in the half and took a 50-36 advantage into halftime.
The Knights started the second half by scoring eight of the first 10 points to increase their lead to 20, 58-38. Neumann continued to pad its lead and took a 29 point advantage, 75-46, on two free throws by Lowman midway through the half. The Highlanders then went on an 11-2 run, including back-to-back-to-back three pointers, to get back to with 20, 77-57, with 7:56 left on the clock.
O'Keefe hit a layup with 1:54 on the clock to get Neumann to 99 points and a layup by
Jordan Collins with just under a minute remaining, put the Knights over the century mark for the sixth time this season.
Justin Fleming capped the scoring with a buzzer-beating layup.
Neumann (21-2, 15-1 CSAC) heads into the final week of the regular season. The Knights will host Cabrini in a crucial game for seeding on Wednesday evening beginning at 7:00 PM.
