ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team will host Gwynedd Mercy University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) semifinal contest on Wednesday evening.
The No. 2 seeded Knights received a first round bye as they went 18-7 overall and 13-3 in the conference. Gwynedd Mercy is the No. 3 seed. The Griffins defeated No. 6 Immaculata 68-33 in first round action on Monday evening.
In the lone meeting between the Knights and Griffins came back in January. Neumann came away with a 72-53 win on its home court.
AAliya Hayes led the Knight with 26 points and
Lauren Legler followed with 20 points, 18 of which were from three-pointers.
Mariah Maciejewski had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Hayes was named the CSAC Player and Defensive Player of the Year, announced on Monday before the postseason began. The senior currently leads the team averaging 19.3 points and 11.2 rebounds per game.
Nafisa Saunders, a second team honoree, is adding 16.7 points per game. Legler, who was named honorable mention, leads the Knights in three-pointers, connecting on 70 while, adding 12.2 points per game.
The winner of Wednesday nights contest will take on the winner of the other CSAC semifinal contest between No. 1 seeded Marywood University and No. 5 seeded Cabrini College. The CSAC Championship game will take place on Saturday on the home court of the highest remaining seeds.
