HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The No. 17 Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Centenary University 96-73 on Saturday afternoon as
Darian Barnes reached his 1,000
th career point in an Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) matchup.
Barnes needed just five points for 1,000 career points and he reached that mark on the first of two free throws with 15:30 left in the first half. He made both free throws to give Neumann a 14-11 lead. The senior finished with 20 points and went 8-for-9 from the line.
DeAndre Williams led the Knights with 25 points, including five baskets from downtown.
Carl Wallace netted 12 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
Billy Cassidy netted three three-pointers en route to 11 points and
Tyaire Hudson added 10 points.
Cassidy began the game with a three-pointer 22 seconds in. With the teams knotted at nine, the Knights went on a 15-4 run to take a 24-13 lead. Back-to-back three-pointers by Williams gave the Knights a 32-19 lead with 7:13 left in the half. The Cyclones worked their way back to within seven, 36-29, with 4:41 left before halftime. Neumann ended the half on a 15-6 run for a 51-35 score heading into halftime.
The Knights scored the first five points of the second half and never looked back. The Cyclones tried to chip away at the Knights lead but two free throws by Wallace put Neumann up by more than 20 points for good.
Neumann (20-1, 14-0 CSAC) will head to Rosemont on Wednesday evening for more CSAC action beginning at 8:00 PM.
