Men's Basketball Handed First CSAC Loss, Lowman Sets Scoring Record

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The No. 15 Neumann University men's basketball team was handed its first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) loss, 97-96 in overtime, at Rosemont College on Wednesday evening.

DeShawn Lowman set the Neumann University men's basketball scoring record with an early three-pointer. He needed just three points and finished the game with nine for a total of 1,698. Lowman broke Tim McKee's record that was set over 20 years ago as McKee played for the Knights from 1990-1993.

Five Knights hit double-figures led by DeAndre Williams with 22 points. Darian Barnes and Carl Wallace both added 17 points. Tyaire Hudson tallied 14 and Tony Parker netted 11 points.

Rosemont got the first basket of the game but Barnes answered back to tie it up 2-2. The Knights and Ravens battled basket for basket and knotted the score three more times before making it 10-10. With the Ravens holding a 12-10 lead, Lowman hit a three-pointer with 12:32 on the clock for his first basket of the game and breaking the scoring record for the men's basketball program. The basket started an 11-2 run for the Knights to take a 21-14 lead. Rosemont battled back to within two, 29-27, with 6:01 left before halftime. Neumann netted the next eight points to increase its lead to 37-27. The Knights took a 40-31 lead into the break.

The Knights kept the pace for a good part of the second half, building their lead up to as many as 15. With 2:01 left in regulation, Neumann held a 10 point lead, 80-70, on a William's basket and one. Rosemont started to make its move and scored five points over 30 seconds and went on a 14-1 run to take an 84-81 lead with just seconds remaining. Barnes hit a three-pointer with 11 seconds left on the clock to tie the game. The Ravens had a chance to win in regulation, but missed the shot and the teams went into overtime for the second time this season.

Rosemont started overtime with a three-pointer but Parker answered back to put Neumann back on the board. From there the Knights went on a six point run, taking a 90-87 lead. The Ravens came back and the game was tied again, this time at 92. Layups by Barnes and Hudson gave the Knights a 96-92 advantage. Neumann would not be able to get the ball to sink in the basket again and Rosemont hit a layup and three free throws to take a one point lead with 1:12 remaining. The scoring ended there as neither team could add to the scoreboard. The Knights had the last possession to try and win at the buzzer but they could not get the ball to fall.

Neumann (20-2, 14-1 CSAC) will head home to host Carin University on Saturday afternoon for senior day activities. The CSAC contest begins at 3:00 PM.
