AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Neumann University baseball was edged by Otterbein University on Thursday afternoon in spring break action.
Cody MacNair went 3-for-4 and scored three runs for the Knights.
Kyle Weller also was 3-for-4 and knocked in a pair.
Patrick Graham took the loss, going 5.1 innings and allowing five runs, four earned, and struck out four.
Zach Cooney pitched 3.2 innings, did not allow a hit or run and stuck out six.
Otterbein scored single runs in the second and third inning for a 2-0 lead. Neumann got on the board in the bottom of third as Weller singled to score MacNair. The Cardinals another run in the fifth and hit two solo homeruns in the sixth inning for a 5-1 lead.
MacNair hit a one-out double in the sixth inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Nick Panissidi. In the eighth,
Curt Yenchik led off with a single, followed by another double by MacNair. Yenchik scored on a single by Weller. MacNair came around to score when
Jon DelValle reached on an error. With two men on and one out, the Knights could not get the key hit to plate the tying run and the game went to the ninth inning.
The Knights went down in order in the ninth inning and fell 5-4.
Neumann (2-2) will face Capital tomorrow with the first pitch slated for 2:30 PM.
