ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated Gwynedd Mercy University 5-1 on Sunday afternoon to salvage a win in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) season series.
The Knights opened the scoring in the second inning as
Sam Banks hit a two-run single to score
Cody MacNair and
Duncan Balara.
The game remained 2-0 until the Griffins cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Neumann plated three insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning. With one out,
Joe Nepi reached on an error,
Nick Panissidi was hit by a pitch and Banks walked to load the bases. Nepi scored on a passed ball.
Chuck Trentler hit a sacrifice fly to score Panissidi and Banks scored on a single by
Eric Bergman.
Grant Wallace started the game on the mound and picked up the win. The sophomore went 6.0 scoreless innings and struck out four.
Anthony Stricker went 1 innings, allowing one run.
Zach Youngberg took the save, going 2.0 innings and sent the Griffins down in order in the bottom of the ninth.
Neumann (5-7, 1-2 CSAC) will host Montclair State tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM.
