ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell to Rowan University 5-4 on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action.
Evan Emerich knocked in all four runs for Neumann on a two-run homerun and a two-run single.
Josh Cruz started the game and went 6.0 innings. He allowed two runs on three hits and struck out five.
Anthony Stricker went 1.2 innings and took the loss. He allowed three runs on three hits.
Zach Youngberg pitched the final 1.1 innings and did not allow a hit.
The Knights scored first in the fifth inning when Emerich hit his two-run homerun to left field. The Profs answered back with a two-run homerun in the top of the sixth to tie the game.
Rowan sent eight batters to the plate in the top of the eighth inning and scored three runs to take a 5-2 lead.
Heading into the bottom of the ninth, the Knights were trailing by three, 5-2.
Kyle Weller worked a walk to lead off the inning. Pinch-hitter
Danny Padilla hit into a fielders choice to trade places at first base. With two outs, pinch-hitter
Curt Yenchik singled to put two runners on base and bring to the plate the game-tying run.
Sam Banks walked to load the bases.
Emerich stepped to the plate and hit a single up the middle to score two runs and put the tying run at third base.
Chuck Trentler hit a line drive to left field, but the ball hung up just long enough for the out and the rally to fall just short.
Neumann (6-8) gets back into conference action this weekend with a series against Marywood. The series is slated to begin at Neumann tomorrow with first pitch at 3:00 PM.
